Covering Power 的含義根據應用領域不同，主要有兩種解釋：
1. 塗料與油墨領域：遮蓋力
指塗料或油墨均勻塗布後，遮蓋（或隱藏）底材顔色或圖案的能力。遮蓋力強的塗料能以更薄的塗層完全覆蓋底色，減少用量。其核心是顔料對光線的散射和吸收效率。
2. 攝影領域（主要指鏡頭）：像場覆蓋力
指攝影鏡頭成像圈（Image Circle）能完全覆蓋的膠片或圖像傳感器尺寸的能力。一個鏡頭的像場覆蓋力必須大于或等于其所用膠片/傳感器的對角線長度，否則會出現圖像邊緣暗角（Vignetting）甚至完全無影像的區域。
“Covering Power” 在工業應用中主要指材料的遮蓋能力，在攝影光學中則指鏡頭的像場覆蓋能力。
